From the A19
The simplest route to the centre is from the A19.
Take the A19 turnoff East sign posted A1231 and head along the North bank of the River Wear on the dual carriageway. Carry straight on across a series of roundabouts. Do not turn right onto the Queen Alexandra bridge, but follow the signs to the Sunderland AFC Stadium of Light.
With the Queen Alexandra bridge on your right, take lane 2 of 4 (direction Roker Seaburn A1290) and head straight on at the traffic lights. The Stadium is in front of you.
From the Stadium of Light, follow the tourist (brown) signs for the National Glass Centre. This will lead you along to the North bank of the River Wear. Drive right up to the Glass Centre. Just before you enter the car park, follow the road round to the right.
Drive up to the barrier and press the button to talk to security, who will let you in. The building in front of you is The Informatics Centre. Walk to the left of it, and round in front to the red block paved yard. CAT main reception is on the right hand side. Obtain a car park permit from the desk if you do not already have one. This tag must be displayed on your rear view mirror.
Walking back towards CAT reception, the building on your left is the DM building. Enter from the red yard, take the stairs or lift to level 2. From the lift, walk straight across and in through the single door. Go up the stairs to the left of the lift. The centre is at the far side of the room.
From the A1
Northbound and Southbound, take the junction at Washington Services for the A1231 (Sunderland). Follow this road until the roundabout with the A19, where you should go straight across. From there, follow the directions as above.
